Grant Green's head and first solo on the Ray Charles classic, "This Little Girl Of Mine" from Green's "Blues For Lou" record. This head is a great example of how to apply simple theme and variation concepts to the major pentatonic scale with a few blues scale fills added in for good measure. The solo also relies heavily on the major pentatonic and blues scale but Green knows exactly when to add just a touch more color while still keeping the tune firmly in R&B/Pop territory. His line headed from the I chord to the IV in the solo is worth the price of admission alone. Transcription available at my Soundslice channel
